Exterior Lighting

One of the most important elements of outdoor lighting, and this holds true for indoor lighting as well, is to not go overboard. There are lots of different types of lighting you can use for different purposes in your garden, some of the main ones include:

• Down Lighting - shines light down onto a specific (or wide) area - such as a potted bush or water feature. Down lighting can be attached to walls, fences and even trees. Couple a strong downlight with a sensor for additional night time security.
• Up Lighting - usually installed in the ground (or, for example, on a path) up lights are a great way to draw attention to objects from below. Can also create dramatic shadow effects if used together.
• Moon Lighting - as the name suggests, these lights can substitute for very bright moonlight. Usually placed high up (for example, on the roof) for best effect.
• Path lights - usually these go on stakes in the ground. Great for lighting up paths and walkways both for effect and to help people see where they are putting their feet!
• Spot lighting- great for security and generally increasing the light level of a garden.
